Jack Mason is the strategic programs and social media leader at IBM Global Business Services. Since 2004, he has been working at the intersection of IBM’s strategic communications frontiers and emerging technology trends such as social computing, 3D/virtual innovations, the internet of things and mobile communications, including augmented reality.
Mr. Mason has been advancing IBM’s Smarter Planet agenda, business analytics and the evolution of “the social business” through several projects. His Smarter Planet site on Tumblr curates news, trends, insights and links that reflect the evolution of the world’s systems.
The SmarterCities Scan is a multimedia collaborative intelligence project on building a planet of smarter cities. And The Social Business site focuses on how organizations can transform themselves through social technologies.
Android users can find The Smarter Planet and The Social Business apps in the Android Market, as well as apps for Blackberry and other smartphones.
Jack Mason has also just launched a new version of the IBM Global Business Services Virtual Center: a 3D space designed to complement the six physical analytics centers that IBM has opened in Berlin, Tokyo, Beijing, London, New York and Washington, D.C.
One aspect of this living laboratory we’ll be exploring is the convergence of physical and digital systems that Augmented and Mixed Reality are harbingers of.
Before joining IBM, Jack Mason’s career spanned corporate communications at Time Warner, print and internet journalism at Time Inc. New Media, advertising and communications agencies. He also spent three years reporting on and writing about the commercialization of nanotechnology.
Mr. Mason graduated from Brown University with a degree in semiotics and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
